Crivella West has now received the latest Governor Palin emails released by the State of Alaska. For the past three years Crivella West has hosted the Palin emails, as they have been produced, to allow the public access in a useful format. The State of Alaska has released two prior sets of emails and the combined collection totals almost 31,000 emails from Governor Palinís term in office.
Palin Collection II
This collection contains over 24,000 e-mails from former Alaska Governor Sarah Palinís administration and was obtained in June 2011, more than two and a half years after the public records request for these materials. Crivella West, at its own expense, converted the paper copies of the e-mails produced back into searchable digital copies and made the digital copies available to the public without charge. In addition, Crivella West has provided analytical tools to organize the documents to help users uncover information of interest. Crivella West is continuing its collaboration with msnbc.com, Mother Jones and Pro Publica. Follow the story on: http://msnbc.msn.com/id/43281157/
Palin Collection I
In September of 2008 Aram Roston, then at NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, made several public records requests to the governor of the State of Alaska. Roston sought e-mails dated from January 2007 to September 24, 2008 that were copied to, directed to, or from Todd Palin and seven members of then Governor Sarah Palin's staff, including Governor Palin. The records provided by the governor's office consist of 2,544 pages and were subsequently provided to Bill Dedman, an msnbc.com investigative reporter. In collaboration with msnbc.com, Crivella West Incorporated, a knowledge discovery company, digitized, analyzed and arranged this Palin e-mail collection. Further, Crivella West categorized these documents into Special Collections for easy review. Bill Dedman detailed his findings from this production in an article published on February 5, 2010 which you can find at: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35238034/ns/politics/ The State of Alaska's Response to Roston's requests, as well as a listing of records the governor's office withheld or redacted, can be accessed on the links below.
What is a Special Collection?
Crivella West uses its propriety analytical processes to find information pertinent to specific topics in a document collection. For the White House Collection, Crivella West developed two Special Collections: Engineered Special Collections and Researched Special Collections.
The Engineered Special Collections were created using an automated linguistic analysis that finds documents containing language indicating strong emotion or emotive language.
The Researched Special Collections were developed and created by Crivella West personnel, who reviewed and identified topics of interest in the records. These topics included such things as the controversial hiring and termination decisions related to US Attorneys.
These Special Collections can be accessed by clicking on the Special Collections link under Public Access Collections.
